Our History
Pastor Rick and Kathy Buchholz
The Potter's House (known also as The Door, Victory Chapel, Christian Center, La Casa Del Alfarero, Cornerstone, Crossroads Chapel, La Puerta and Christian Fellowship incorporated in Prescott) began in Prescott, Arizona in the early 1970's by Wayman Mitchell. The ‘Jesus People Movement’ was sweeping America and multitudes of young people were being profoundly saved and converted to Christ. While many of the traditional churches closed their doors to the long-haired, denim clad ‘hippies’, Pastor Wayman Mitchell received them with open arms.
Pastor Mitchell’s solid grounding in the Word of God and his passion to take the Gospel into all the world was soon imparted into the hearts of many zealous new converts. In a short few years, several young couples were launched into surrounding cities to pioneer new churches. Today there are over 1600 churches directly linked to this ministry.
In 1973, one of those dedicated couples was sent into Tempe, Arizona to begin a new church, following the pattern that had been set in Prescott, Arizona. From the beginning, the emphasis was on World Evangelism, Discipleship, and Church Planting..
In 1985, Rick and Kathy Buchholz, a couple out of the Tempe congregation, were sent into San Diego, California to pioneer our church. The current Pastor is Joe Rice. We still emphasis Discipleship, World Evangelism and Church Planting just as our Mother Church and their Mother church have for more than 40 years! It has been 37 years now and the church planted in Tempe, AZ has grown to nearly 300 faithful members and are still planted dozens of couples around the world!
